The Food View is an editable spreadsheet showing a days food intake subtotaled by meal.
Move around the spreadsheet using the arrow keys, insert, delete, cut, copy, paste and move lines as needed.
The currently selected cell is indicated by a white rectangle
To edit the current cell press Enter, or simply start typing to replace its contents. You can also start editing by double clicking on a specific cell.
Notes
- The meal header lines cannot be edited, starting to type on one of these lines will open a new food line.
- Use the use the +/- in the first column to expand/contract meals, use the +/- in the table header to expand/contract all meals
- For foods that have ingredients a
icon is shown in the first column, you can use the right-click menu option Expand Ingredients to replace the food with its ingredients.
- The nutrient columns and the spreadsheet colors can be customized in the Options dialog
.
- The totals may not exactly add up because the values are stored internally to many decimal places but the values shown are rounded to the number of decimals specified in the Options dialog, hence the values 0.3, 0.4, 0.4 would show as all zeros when rounded to 0 decimal places but still the total figure 1.1 would show as 1.
Entering your daily food intake
To enter your daily food intake first select a meal by clicking on a meal subtotal line

To open a line for food entry either double click the meal line, press the insert key, click the
button or simply start typing the food name.
Here we start typing 'or ju'

As you type the dropdown list shows the list of matching foods in the database, the search works by finding words that match the first characters of the words you have entered so to find an entry with the words 'orange juice' we have entered simply 'or ju' to narrow the search.
Entries in the food search dropdown are sorted to show your matching favorites
first
,
then foods that you have selected before
then other foods. For foods that have been used before the number of uses are
shown in brackets at the end of the name.
Continue to type to narrow the search until you can see the food you are looking for, once found select it by using the up/down arrow keys (or simply click on the entry) then press tab to go to the quantity field.

Type the quantity and use the up/down arrow keys to select the correct units

When finished press tab to complete the quantity entry and go to the next line.
As you continue to enter your food intake in this way the meal and day totals are updated and summary information is refreshed.

If the food you are entering is not in the database then use the New Food or Quick Entry items in the food search dropdown.

The Quick Entry item allows you to enter a food name without
linking it to an entry in the database, when entering a Quick Entry you must
manually enter the values for the calories/nutrients (since they cannot be derived
from the database). Use Quick Entries for foods that you do not expect to eat
again (one offs) so do not wish to enter into your food database. Quick Entry
foods in your log are indicated by the
icon.
The New Food item takes you to the food definition dialog where you can enter the details for a new food, this food will be inserted into the main food database and will subsequently be available for use when logging food intake. Use this entry for all foods that you eat regularly but cannot find in the master database. When you first start using the program will have to enter several user foods in this way.
See Food Dialog for more information on entering a new food definition.

Editing lines
Existing food lines can be edited by double clicking on a cell or by simply starting to type to overwrite the contents.
Multiple lines can be selected using the usual process of selecting the first line then pressing Shift and either using the up/down arrow keys to extend the selection or clicking the mouse on the last line to select.
Lines can be deleted, inserted, moved up/down, cut copied and pasted using the available toolbar/menu options. Full undo/redo is supported so you can safely try things out knowing that you can undo the operation if you make a mistake.
Right click on a line (or group of selected lines) to see the available options

You can copy foods between days by selecting the lines, choosing the Copy action (using the Menu option Edit>Copy, the toolbar button or the keyboard
shortcut Ctrl C) navigating to the new day using the Calendar then selecting
the insert point and choosing the Paste option. This will paste
the lines into the meal that is currently selected.
To copy a whole day use the Copy Day option, this copies all
the food lines plus which meal they are in to the clipboard, subsequently when
you paste into a new day the foods will be added to the meals from which they
came.

In addition to finding foods by name directly in the speadsheet you can use
the various finder tabs to select foods. To add a food from a finder either
